Wadi Safafir: Slag Spreads
About a kilometer downstream from the copper mine is a large area with numerous spreads of slag, graves, buildings and stone walls. Perhaps the site that has been destroyed originally appeared like this area.
Though several hundred slag cores were found, there was no evidence of where the furnaces were located. Likewise, no ore grinding stones were located nor any roasting pits identified.
Nonetheless this is a fascinating area with evidence of many years of smelting activity.
