Wadi Madabah

Wadi Madabah

Wadi Madabah, located deep in Wadi Agran, is a popular destination because there are large swimming pools and a constantly flowing waterfall. Regrettably, the visitors to the wadi often leave the site littered with garbage.

The chapter has made several visits to the area below the falls to collect rubbish but has not tackled the larger problem above the falls where the litter is overwhelming.

On one of our cleanup expeditions, students from the Al Ain English Speaking School joined ENHG members and spent the afternoon picking up rubbish from the wadi adjacent to the village of Madabah.

A truckload of plastic bottles, paper litter, foil and miscellaneous plastic was gathered. The students enjoyed the day so much that they insisted the school set up an unofficial wadi patrol which will visit wadis in the Al Ain area throughout the winter to collect rubbish left by inconsiderate visitors.

Later in the afternoon, after most of the group enjoyed a swim in one of the two pools at the site, everyone enjoyed a barbecue. The wadi cleanup was organized by Mrs. K. Bunn of AAESS, with the support of Mr. C. Meadows. Janet Rachidi recorded the event with photographs.
