Original ENHG Committee Position: Librarian
The duties of the Librarian of the Al Ain chapter of the Emirates Natural
History Group include:
- receive books with inventory from previous librarian
- marking of all existing books, or books to be acquired in the future, with
the ENHG rubber stamp; on the inside of the front cover, on the Title Page,
and on page number 25
- classify existing books according to subjects (archaeology, botany,
cultural heritage, animals, history, geography, adventure/journeys, etc) in a
notebook ad hoc
- draw up a list of books in the library and issue a list every year in the
Newsletter; if possible at the beginning of the year or after inventory
- make one card for every book, which will be kept in a pocket fixed to the
inside of the front cover
- keep books in a locked cabinet; such cabinet will be left in a place
decided by the Committee (at present in the Hilton Hotel)
- one locker key will be kept by the librarian. A spare key will be kept by
the treasurer (well marked for its identification) for safekeeping in case the
original is lost. The spare key will be handed over to the librarian at his
request, or to the person designated in his or her absence. The spare key will
not be used by anybody else for the purpose of loaning books.
- loan books to members on presentation of their membership card with number.
Books will normally be lent for two weeks, but may be kept longer at the
discretion of the librarian. Borrower's name and membership number will be
written in a corresponding book-card, as well as the date due. The card will
be kept by the librarian while the book is on loan
- keep a track of books previously lent; try to recover missing ones
- obtain information regarding existing books on natural history/cultural
heritage etc which may be of interest to members, and advise the committee as
to the convenience of acquiring them
- advise the committee as regards library deficiencies, i.e. lack of
literature on certain subjects, and to consider correcting them
- keep the ENHG rubber stamp and pad. ("Block" c/o Al Ain Printing

- keep available copies of camping check list for members
- keep up-to-date the files of Al Ain NHG Newsletters, Abu Dhabi, Dubai,
Bahrain and Oman Newsletters, ABBA reports and any other material sent to the
Group.
- on resigning, the librarian will hand over to his or her successor, or to
the Group Chairperson:
a) existing books and inventory
b) list of books on loan at the time, with names and numbers of borrowers
c) the ENHG rubber stamp and pad
d) the key and spare key, and
e) the notebook of classification
