About us: ENHG Al AinAbout us: ENHG Al AinThe Al Ain chapter meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month (July, August and December excepted) at the Al Ain Intercontinental Resort hotel. Meetings begin at 7:30 pm. New members are always welcome. The chapter has been in existence since 1980. ("The Al Ain group formally became the Al Ain Branch of the ENHG in 1980 but a regular liaison capacity is still required between the two groups. The Al Ain Branch has published its first Report and Proceedings (September 1980), a copy of which is in the library." -- Bulletin 13, March 1981) The group organizes field trips that are normally held on Fridays each week. From time to time, other weekend field trips are held. In all instances, the group makes an effort to include all individuals, regardless of age, physical condition or experience. During each season, additional activities are organized for members with special interests. For example, members interested in challenging mountain hiking can join the events of the Ibrahim Zakhour Triple Crescent Award. This program offers individuals an opportunity to climb some of the more challenging peaks in the district. The chapter also has custodial care of insect specimens, the collection including specimens donated to the chapter by Mike Gillett and Brigitte Howarth. From June, 2006, the chapter has added the original collection of the Abu Dhabi chapter to the specimens kept in Al Ain. The group has an email discussion group, courtesy of YahooGroups.com. Individuals can use the subscription service on the home page of this website to subscribe. If you are a Yahoo subscriber, there are additional services available at our site at YahooGroups.com including files and photographs. The group maintains a library at our work room which is located at the Al Ain English Speaking School. The regular work room meeting night is the third Tuesday of each month. Other resources include maps, computer files, geological specimens and fossils. The Al Ain chapter is managed by a Committee of volunteers. The Committee meets at the work room at the Al Ain English Speaking School on the first Tuesday of each month. |
